Of her dating arguably the most eligible bachelor in the world, Prince Harry. Thankfully for Meghan she has her rock and confidant her mother Doria, who has stood by her side all her life.

 

So Who Is Meghan Markle’s Mother?

 

Meghan’s mum is yoga instructor and social worker Doria Radlan, who gave birth to beautiful Meghan in August 1981.

 

What was life like for Meghan and Doria growing up?

Meghan’s mum Doria is African-American and her father is of Dutch-Irish ancestry. So with Meghan being of mixed heritage her family suffered racial abuse when she was younger.

 

Meghan stated recently that because her mother is black with dreadlocks and Meghan passes for white, there was always people rudely questioning whether Doria was actually Meghan’s biological mum.

Megan remember’s how her mother Doria was often mistaken for the nanny. Megan said in an interview: “I was home in LA on a college break when my mom was called the ‘N’ word. We were leaving a concert and she wasn’t pulling out of a parking space quickly enough for another driver.”

 

Speaking with Elle Magazine she added: “While my mixed heritage may have created a grey area surrounding my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence, I have come to embrace that. To say who I am, to share where I’m from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman.”

 

How Does Meghan Describe her mum Doria?

Meghan has often described her mother as a “free sprited clinical therapist” and fondly remembers travelling to remote often impoverished areas for her mum to carry out her work

As a therapist when Meghan was younger. Meghan said: “Both my parents came from little, so they made a choice to give a lot.”

 

How did Doria meet Meghan’s Fiance, Prince Harry?

Doria met Prince Harry in Toronto Canada in October 2017 during the Invictus Games. Royal sources have stated that Harry’s decision to meet Meghan’s mum at the closing ceremony of the Invictus Games was “massively significant.”

Doria flew 2,500 miles from L.A to Toronto and shared the VIP box with the young Prince Harry and Meghan. The royal source stated that the turn of events proved that an official engagement announcement was imminent.

 

And speculation reached fever pitch when Harry also kissed Meghan in public for the first time as they watched performances by Bryan Adams and Bruce Springsteen at the ceremony.

The couple announced their engagement on Monday 27 November 2017.
